IC Information
Character Name: Dean Winchester. He has too many alias's to list.
Name that appears on name plaque: Dean Winchester
Character Journal: has_a_phd_in_teddybear
Canon: Supernatural
Point in Canon: Post season seven finale
Age: 32
Birthday: 24th January

Appearance:

he has a tattoo and a scar on his right shoulder, a burn in a perfect handprint shape (Cas's hand).

Abilities: He has no magical/psychic abilities. However, Dean possesses excellent combat and hunting prowess; comprehensively trained by his father from early childhood as a paranormal investigator and hunter of the supernatural, he is established throughout the series as an extremely dangerous individual, and he is more than capable of taking a stand against even the most formidable of opponents, such as demons and vampires.
Dean is well-versed with multiple types of firearms; he prefers his Colt 1911 and sawed-off shotgun, but is proficient with most other weapons he might acquire. An expert marksman, he seldom misses his intended target and can efficiently put down anything vulnerable to bullets.
Dean is adept with martial arts and knife fighting as well; he has subdued several human assailants with ease in multiple episodes and bested physically more powerful creatures, often unarmed or equipped with only a blade. In "Nightshifter", he killed a shape-shifter armed with a simple silver letter opener. In "Fresh Blood," he managed to subdue a vampire long enough to inject her with a shot of "dead man's blood." In "The Magnificent Seven," he fought and held off several demons by himself, armed only with a flask of holy water.
Dean is also a proficient tracker and possesses prudent tactical skills and an instinctive ability to "read" behavioural characteristics and manipulate people. Highly resourceful, he frequently utilizes improvised weapons and explosive devices; in "Croatoan," he demonstrated knowledge in chemistry constructing Molotov cocktails and improvised explosive devices, and in "Phantom Traveller," he revealed knowledge of electronics and reverse engineering, having built an electromagnetic field detector from an old Walkman radio.
Dean also possesses extensive knowledge of the supernatural and mythology. He is versed with how police, fire departments and various government agencies (FBI, CDC) typically operate and conduct investigations, and knows how to both impersonate and evade them effectively. An accomplished mechanic, he maintains his Impala in tip-top condition and has had an intimate knowledge of auto-mobiles and engines since childhood.
Dean is a virtuoso of escape, evasion and silent movement, when the situation requires subtlety and stealth. Lastly, he is also alarmingly skilful in many areas frowned upon by the law: lock picking, breaking into security systems (not so much computers, which often falls to Sam), car-jacking and gaining an 'advantageous purchase' comes naturally to him.
Due to his time spent in Hell as Alistair's "student," Dean has an in-depth knowledge of torture, able to inflict the maximum amount of pain and agony on a victim while keeping them alive as long as possible. In the Season 5 premier, Dean revealed he had learned the banishing spell that sends angels back to Heaven from Castiel. He proves to be even more adept at the 'watchign and learning' than even that, after watching an angel do a ritual once in season six, and being able to remember the details of the spell.

Personality: On the surface, Dean is a laid back type of guy who enjoys women, drink, and food - that is when he isn't chasing after some crazy demon, spirit, or anything supernatural. When chasing supernatural beings, Dean can become very serious about his job, and things that he must do in order to complete his job, although he appears to enjoy it.
He's very family centric, but especially his little brother, Sam. Family is every Winchester's weakness, but especially Dean's. He will give and do anything to keep them safe. His purpose in life, the way he sees it, is to protect them. He sacrifices himself time and time again for his family, even giving up his own life in return for Sam's. Family is his biggest weakness. He has a tendency to throw himself into the line of fire without really thinking about consequences – especially for friends and family.
Dean plays up to his pretty-boy, almost bimbo, dumb-ass role, because that's what people expect of him by looking at him. He's known among the brothers as the dumb(er) one, and he takes that on as his persona. Because he does clever things that are... almost inspired (For example, he knew that one of the 'big bads' they fight would check them and take away her one weakness – the ashes of a phoenix – from them. But before they went into the battle with her, he spiked his own whiskey with some of the ashes, and goaded her into biting him. The ashes had been absorbed into his blood stream, and when she bit him, they burned her from the inside out); but it's never expected of him because that's not the image he gives out. So that he's underestimated. John – his father – had something to do with it too. He was expected to be the soldier, and that's what he was. Which meant, unlike Sam, he never made a big deal about being smart. He knows what's expected of him, and that's what he does.
Although Dean can sometimes become angry around certain discussions or insults about his family and his past, he has a sensitive side – even though that is shown more to strangers (especially kids, whom Dean can get a great rapport with) than his brother. He even sometimes questions himself about what would have happened if his mother never died. Things such as these can leave Dean in a angry attitude, and he normally picks fights with others around him (or his car) during these mood swings. He is remarkably adaptable when it comes to fighting and killing stuff.
Sam describes him as having the humour of a nine year old. He proves this in the same episode as this is claimed, by putting a whoopee cushion on the chair that Castiel sits on. Sam describes Dean's taste in music in the first episode with the words: “The best hits of mullet rock” - but Sam still joins him singing “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi when they are being hunted down by hellhounds. He also rocks it out to “Eye of the Tiger” when he gets a disease which makes him scared of everything.
Over all, Dean is an action man, very impulsive and passionate about fighting the good fight. He trusts his instincts to lead him in the right direction where as his brother prefers to think things through before acting. He’ll kill without question and can be ruthless and aggressive at times. Despite mercilessly teasing and often arguing with Sammy, Dean loves his brother and would do anything for him, even going so far as to sell his soul to a demon which resulted in him going to Hell. When he escaped the pit, Dean’s fun-loving, carefree attitude has suffered a decline (though his womanising ways didn't appear to have changed) and soul destroying guilt has replaced it. Through the events in season six and seven, Dean's family either betrayed him or died, and he felt helpless as he couldn't do much other than sit and watch. Due to this, his self worth is lower than ever before; and he's also tired of the job, feeling that he's given all he can and yet things are still being taken and taken. There's pretty much only two reasons he's still in the game: One - to do right by Bobby; Two - to get revenge for Bobby by killing Dick Roman.

Strengths: Highly trained in combat, stealth and tactics thanks to his Marine father.
Has an inbuilt instinct for hunting and tracking.
Excellent marksman, well versed in all kinds of weapons
Very experienced in escapology under pressure
Expert driving skills gained from a life on the road, used for getting away from the law in a hurry and evading things that are about to kill him
Fearless and determined to protect the innocent and vanquish evil
Loyalty to family and friends
Can ‘read’ people, is good at judging character
Proficient with mechanics and knows a thing or two about chemistry
Very resourceful and opportunistic which makes him a smooth con-man
Good at not being seen when he doesn't want too

Weaknesses: His little brother, Sam. Well, family in general.
A stubborn and ever so slightly arrogant attitude that often gets him into trouble
A tendency to throw himself into the line of fire without really thinking about consequences – especially for friends and family
Can’t shake memories of Hell which make it difficult to get a good night's sleep
Flying - he doesn't do it well.
Not being able to share his feelings with Sam – often leading to destruction... or crying (but that usually passes quickly when he can help it)
He gets antagonistic when he's pissed off, or in trouble – his smart mouth often making things worse for him.

History: He's up-to-date to the season seven finale

First Person Sample: [After Cas disappears, and he's left with no response other than the rustling of the plant-life (caused by stalking monsters), it takes him all of 0.3 seconds to decide the best thing to do would be to try find somewhere safe to hole up. He takes a few steps forward, hand drifting to his knife that's usually on him, and pushing the vines hanging down away from his face...

--

And the feed flicks on as he steps through the door - well, it's called a door, but it's not much more than a beaded curtain. The shop he's stepped into is low lighted, but he's still fairly visible. And his face goes from a puzzled frown, to an eyebrow raise as he sees what kind of shop he's in, and then a slightly amused laugh. Well, hell. A porn shop. But the vines- a turn back shows him that it's just beads. He's going to assume he's died for now... and nothing says heaven to him like free porn or a strip club.]

This is more like it. Either this is a different starting point, or I got the deluxe package. Either way, this rocks.

[One or two of those movies from the shelf are going to make their way off the shelf into his jacket with a sly manouver.

And then he spots it as he turns around. The comm sat unobtrusively on the shelf behind him. Goddamn it. Juries out on whether this is better or worse than purgatory with the last stunt that was pulled. He picks up the comm, smile having turned extremely wry.]

Because nothing says 'welcome to hell' like free porn. [And with that, it's switched off, and put in his pocket for now. He'll be putting a couple more of those DVD's in his jacket too, thanks. Call it compensation.]

Third Person Sample: Dean went and brought fresh materials - he'd used all what he'd brought for Bobby to show him how to practising to make sure he was going to get it right (when he found the time between research and everything else). He found out where Cas was, and headed that way, not calling ahead, wanting to surprise him - that, and he hadn't answered Dean's comm a few days earlier, which Dean had found worrying.

Despite being strung-out, stressed and exhausted, and generally run down, he wore a smile. It was the least busy he'd been since he got here, he was taking time away from the library (where he spent so much time he considered taking covers and making a damned nest at one time - but that was mainly exhaustion and irritation scrambling his brain at that time), and he intended to use today to relax.

He even managed to shove any and all doubts, worries, and general awkwardness that stemmed from this being Castiel - made a hell of a lot easier by telling himself this Cas was different, he must admit - into a box at the back of his mind and take today for what it was: A day out with a friend a terminal friend who your failing at saving and- goddamn it brain shut up doing something that made said friend happy.

And Dean knew from experience why it was important to enjoy the last few months as much as possible because you're not going to be able to save him, just like you couldn't- shutupshutupshutup even though he was going to save him. Because he was determined he was going to save him.

Going to save him; have to save him.

He adjusted the bag of materials on his shoulder, and knocked on the door. "Yo Cas, you in?" ...Because that would be Dean's luck from wanting to surprise him.
